Abstract:
Based on the LOOP subdivision scheme, a new approach to generate NC accuracy cutting tool path from a surface is presented. Our algorithm applies a subdivision surface to CAD/CAM system,adapts to an arbitrary topology triangle model and produces NC cutting tool path with given precision by controlling the offset surface error.By using the limit points, the normal vectors of these points from subdivision surface mesh and the radio of the ball end milling cutter, an offset surface with controlling accuracy is produced, then an accurate cutting tool path from the offset subdivision surface is generated. Practical examples are given to show stability, high efficiency and low error of the algorithm.
