Abstract:
Since the analytical model for TMP(transmembrane potential)on suspension cells exposed to external electric field is too complex to obtain, an approximate equivalence method is proposed to resolve this problem. First, the average field inside the cell suspensions is calculated according to the Maxwell equivalence principle. Then the condition, under which the local electric field of unit cell in suspensions is approximately similar to that of a single cell exposed to external field, is investigated. Based on the analytical solution of single cell, an analytical model for the TMP on the suspension cells is built. The model shows that the TMP depends on parameters such as the external field, the cell arrangement and the cell volume fraction. Finally, the TMP on a suspension cell is calculated using the proposed analytical model and the results are compared with those from numerical calculation using finite-element method. It is shown that the analytical results are in agreement with the numerical results.
