Abstract:
Firstly, the conflict at four-cross signalized intersection is analyzed. Based on the theory of passing through gap and the data from observation, the probability chorological discipline model of the left-turn bicycles is put forward. And the formula for the numbers of left-turn bicycles passing through the straight-through vehicle flow in one signal cycle is deduced. The formula for the numbers of detained left-turn bicycles which fail to pass through the vehicle flow in one signal cycle and have to wait for next green-time is also deduced. By the quantitative analyses, the analysis model of the influence of left-turn bicycles on the straight-through vehicle flow is set up, which provides a theoretical basis to the foundation of installing the appropriative bicycle phase. This study presents a new idea and methods to the signal design, especially the bicycle phase setting, at the signalized intersection.
