Abstract:
A pair of(1, R)and(M, 1)EOQ(economic order quantity)models are proposed for a remanufacturing setting with waster disposal. In these models: customer’s demand can be fulfilled by manufacturing of new products and remanufacturing of used products returned by the customer; some of the returned products are remanufactured and others are discarded; the relevant average costs are the summation of different holding costs rates for recoverable and serviceable inventory, fixed and variable production costs for manufacturing and remanufacturing, and costs for discarding. The main purpose is to solve closed-form formulae that determine the optimal ordering quantity for manufacturing and remanufacturing. The models are valid for finite and infinite production rate of manufacturing and remanufacturing. They are also applicable to all or a proportion of returned products being remanufactured. The remanufacturing coefficient is introduced to express the ratio between the remanufactured products and discarded ones. A numerical example is given to illustrate theoretical solutions and the impact of the remanufacturing coefficient on the rate-of-change of average costs.
