Abstract:
After briefly introducing the general concept of computation of load stresses in rigid pavement by using finite element method in displacement model, this paper presents a method of treatment of foundation reaction, which is different from that used by S. K. Wang and Y. K. Chueng. The author points out that the concentrated reaction assumed by S. K. Wang and Y. K. Chueng is not consistent with the principle of Static equivalency in load transposing, and the division of blocks of foundation reaction is inadequate. In stress computation, the author uses a uniformly distributed reaction instead of concentrated reaction. The result of-computation shows that the uniformly distributed reaction is more reasonable than the concentrated reaction. Besides, the results with circular-shaped and square-shaped uniform loads of the same area have also been compared. It is shown that they are identical.
